Uganda – The King’s Kid Home-School, Mityana

Children at The King's Kid Home-School

For over 20 years, Southern Uganda has been in the grip of HIV/AIDS and hundreds of thousands of children have been orphaned, left homeless and hopeless, with nobody to care for them. Pastor Robert Mponye and his wife Esther (shown, right), who had themselves lost loved ones, decided to try to help the orphans in their community of Mityana, and until recently had been renting a small school building to teach classes from kindergarten to primary four, as well as supporting older children. In addition to education, the Mponyes help with feeding, clothing & providing shelter, and their tireless work has resulted in the orphanage growing to its current size of around 250 children. Robert and Esther are also raising three children of their own.

They presently have seven other parent-teachers who help them practically, but Robert and Esther rely entirely on donations in order to keep the orphanage running, financially, and to pay for food and clothing for the children. PPG is working with The Exodus Foundation, a UK-based charity, which communicates directly with Robert and Esther, to ensure all money donated goes to where it is needed.
